Frequently Asked Questions How does the View-Cam work? The Sportsman's View-Cam™ is a camouflaged, waterproof, miniature color video lens that slides onto the bill of your hat for a secure fit, and records onto your camcorder that is stored in a fanny pack or back pack. It utilizes the A/V cable that comes with most of the popular camcorders. This cable is designed to allow the camcorder to plug directly into your television set for playback purposes or recording purposes. The View-Cam uses this A/V cable to record the video. The View-Cam can send the video/audio results to both the tape/DVD, as well as the memory stick. If your are unsure if your existing camcorder allows for this feature, please check the operation instructions of your camcorder for Video Input capability. If you have the ability to video tape directly from your television onto your camcorder, then your camcorder will be compatible. You may also visit this web page for a listing of compatible camcorders, or contact Sportsman's View at info@thehuntcam.com and send the make, model and year purchased of your camcorder and we will be happy to look into whether your camcorder will work. Our experience has been that this feature is found on many of the popular brands of camcorders and that the majority of the Sony or Canon models offering this feature. We are also happy to recommend camcorders if you are looking to purchase a new one that may be used in conjunction with the View-Cam. How is the View-Cam different from other hat/bow mounted cameras? The View-Cam is professionally designed and manufactured with high quality components. Unlike cheap imitations, the View-Cam's weatherproof housing is designed to protect the View-Cam from the rugged use that sportsmen have come to expect out of their hunting accessories. The View-Cam offers the best picture quality on the market today. We reveal what our product specifications are and demonstrate our video results for you to see. Others just hide these facts from you, and hope that a somewhat cheaper price will lure you in for the sale! Don't be fooled! Ask if the other products are truly waterproof, and offer camcorder level quality video results. Find out how many outdoor professionals have tested their products in the field, and how long their product has been on the market. Sportsman's View, LLC has been manufacturing and selling quality products for several years now. We have been selected by many outdoor TV shows for use in helping them capture video footage. How about wireless versions? Don't be fooled by advertising of "wireless" versions. It's not what you think. While there may not be a wire connected directly from the camera to the camcorder, you still have multiple wires connecting the camera to a transmitter, battery and mic, all of which need power. Additionally, you need a receiver and camcorder, and yes, more batteries! Wireless versions require the use of twice as many batteries. You will still have to take your video camera with you in the field because you will still need to activate record. Our testing of these versions also have shown that there is a fair amount of distortion and interference possibilities when using these wireless versions. Since most wireless technology runs on the same frequency as cordless phones and other wireless devices, you could experience picture distortion at anytime. Wireless versions are also very limited in effective range, with trees, hills and buildings causing interference. If you really need to film exactly what you see, without limitation, then the View-Cam is the best solution for sportsmen on the market today. How do you connect your camcorder to the View-Cam? Simply connect the RCA connectors attached to the cable on the View-Cam to the RCA connectors on the A/V cable that comes with your camcorder. Use the VCR/VTR or Play/Edit feature for recording. See also this link for more information about this topic. How do you attach the View-Cam to your hat? The View-Cam comes with a camouflaged sleeve and hat clasp that slides onto the bill of the hat. This secures the View-Cam to your hat so that it will not fall off, even while you are walking or looking down. The custom designed camouflaged sleeve secures the camera as well, holding it firmly into position. You can simply pull the View-Cam loose from your hat at anytime with a firm tug on the hat attachment. This allows you to use the camera on virtually any baseball style camouflage hat, as well as other hats that have a bill. The View-Cam can also be attached to your bow or gun using other attachments. Can I use the View-Cam in any weather conditions? The View-Cam is waterproof, so it can withstand rain or snow conditions. Make sure that if you plan to spend a lot of time in wet weather conditions, to put your camcorder in a weather resistant backpack or fanny pack as it would be more susceptible to be affected by the weather than View-Cam. The View-Cam has been field tested in wet weather conditions. How long will the View-Cam last? The View-Cam is designed with high quality manufacturing and should give you many years of service provided it is not abused. You should expect it to last as long as most cameras or camcorders made today. Be sure to store your View-Cam in its hard shell camo carrying case during the off season to minimize any possible damage to it. What other activities are great for using the View-Cam? The View-Cam is great for most any activity where you would like to record. Other common uses include law enforcement, scouting, riding ATV or bike, fishing, hiking, mountain climbing, paintball, sporting events (kid's baseball game), vacations, and amusement parks. Please contact us if you have questions about using the our products for other purposes. Do you offer additional lenses for the View-Cam?Yes, we have the wide angle lenses that are great for non-hunting activities such as fishing and hiking as well as higher magnification versions for hunting. For hunting you will need the 8mm or 12mm View-Cam. Our standard View-Cam kit ships with the 8mm View-Cam, which is our best all around lens. The 12mm is our higher magnification version and is closer to the same magnification you get with your own eyesight. We also offer wider angle lenses for fishing, hiking, biking, paintball or other activities where magnification is not important. |
