How the Sportsman's View-Cam™ Works
The Sportsman's View-Cam™ The Sportsman's View-Cam™ (also known as the HuntCam) kit comes with everything you will need, except the camcorder. You will need to insure that you have a camcorder that has an audio/video (A/V) cable and allows for A/V Input, which is found on most popular camcorders such as the Sony and Canon models. All camcorders have AV Output, which is used to connect your camcorder to the TV, but not all have AV Input. Most camcorders come with a A/V cable that will connect to the View-Cam using the connectors on the end of the A/V cable. If you have lost your A/V cable, then you can purchase replacement A/V cables at most electronic stores, such as Circuit City or Best Buy. The A/V cable simply connects directly to your camcorder audio/video jack (see picture below). When you switch your camcorder into VTR or VCR mode, you will use the REC button that is beside your PLAY, FAST FORWARD and REWIND buttons on the camcorder. These buttons are normally on the top of most Sony model camcorders and on the left side of most Canon models, and may even light up when you switch to VCR or VTR mode. For the newer model Sony camcorders (HC and DVD models), you will use the PLAY/EDIT mode and the REC CTRL menu to start and stop recording. In some cases, you may also be able to utilize the camcorder remote control to activate the recording process. This is especially true with the Canon models, such as the GL1, GL2, XLS series and most of the new mini DV Canon models, such as the Optura or ZR series. The Canon models also require that you set the AV DV function to ON. You can find this in the MENU under VCR SETUP. You can also use the Canon remote control to set this function to ON by simply pressing the AV/DV button on the remote while in the VCR mode. Next, click on the red REC PAUSE button and then the blue PAUSE button on the remote to start recording. Please feel free to email us at info@thehuntcam.com if you have a question about how this works. Be sure to include the brand name and model number of your camcorder.
Here's a list of compatible camcorders. This is NOT a complete list, as we are not able to be aware of every make and model that offers AV Input. You can find your model number on most camcorders on the bottom of the unit. Please call us if you do not find your brand name and model here and we will help you determine if it is compatible with the View-Cam. If you camcorder has a VCR or VTR mode, then there is a good possibility that you have AV Input. If your camcorder ONLY has PLAY or PLAYER mode, then your camcorder only has AV OUT, but no AV INPUT. Our customers have had great success with any of these camcorders. If you are looking for a inexpensive yet quality camcorder to use with the View-Cam, we recommend the Sony HC32 or 42 models. It has AV Input and is also compatible with our remote control. The Sony HC1000 is a very small 3CCD camcorder and is excellent for a portable 3 Chip camcorder and for use with the View-Cam as well. The View-Cam is powered by a small rechargeable battery, which can provide up to 8 hours of continuous filming and audio power. Additionally, the View-Cam kit includes the battery charger, mini microphone and hat attachment.
The View-Cam fits snuggly into its custom made camo sleeve, which along with the hat attachment secures it to your hat. No holes to drill and no glue required. The hat attachment holds the View-Cam firmly into place so that you will not have to worry about the View-Cam coming loose and falling off of your hat, even while you are walking or riding your ATV. To remove it from your hat you simply slide the View-Cam and hat attachment off of the bill of your hat. The View-Cam is so light weight, you will not even notice that it is attached to your hat! Now simply store your camcorder, rechargeable battery and any other accessory items in your fanny pack or back pack and you are ready to start capturing the action, hands free to hold your bow, gun or work that slate or box call for turkey hunting!
Your Sony or Canon camcorder may be activated with the remote control that comes with the camcorder, or you may purchase one of our remote control units. This remote is a single touch button that can start and stop recording, as well as turn your camcorder on and off. It's small light indicator will display either red or green, letting you know if you are recording or in standby mode. The cable to this remote is 3 feet in length. This is a great addition to the View-Cam Kit if you own a Sony or Canon that is compatible with this remote control. You must have a LANC jack on your Sony or Canon in order for this remote to work.
The View-Cam may also be used in other activities, such as fishing, paintball, vacationing, law enforcement and any other activity where hands free video taping might be needed. Please contact us if you have any questions about the use of our products for your specific needs.
